Will Labour Lose Another By Election – You can bet on it
The date of the Glasgow East By Election was announced last week, Labour have just entered the competition by selecting Margaret Curran as it’s new prospective MP. The date of the By Election for Glasgow East will take place on July 24th.
The by election has been caused by the resignation of Labour MP David Marshall due to his poor health. When David Marshall fought for his seat at the last General Election he won by a staggering 13500 votes, over the SNP who came second, making this a pretty safe seat.
This would explain why Paddy Power bookmakers are making Labour favourite to keep this seat. If you fancy a punt the current odds are 8/11. You can also get evens on SNP taking this seat, which reflects a certain amount of doubt which exists following the recent humiliation the Labour Party have had from the two previous By Elections. Labour lost the By Elections in Crewe and in Henley, by a huge margin, in fact they were pushed into thrid place.
If you think that the Conservatives have a chance of winning the Glasgow East By Election, then you can place a bet with Paddy Power with odds at 20/1. The Lib Dems odds of winning this by election are 100/1.
Margaret Curran is currently a Member of the Scottish Parliament representing the constituency of Baillieston in Glasgow. Having been a lecturer in community education she was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999, and re-elected in 2003 and 2007. If elected, she will continue being an MSP as well as taking on the jobs of an MP, at least for the short term.
This is a very important by election as it could spell disaster for Gordon Brown if Labour are unable to hold onto this safe seat. The Labour Party will really have to rethink his future and bookies are already speculating on a replacement for Gordon Brown.
