Eurovision – the bookies cannot make their minds up, can you?

I would like to start with a word of warning, if you are thinking of placing a bet on the Eurovision Song Contest, then please read this first, it’ll save you pounds. (scroll to bottom to see the best odds or check out our best odds for Eurovision page)

Unless you have been living in a bubble for the past week, you will know that Saturday sees this years Eurovision song contest final. As usual our own performer Andy Abraham’s (the ex dustbin man who lost at X-Factor) will doubtless not even make the top ten, which puts us where? Well down the bottom again on nil points. If however you do not think like me, and have missed the whitewashing of the last few years, you may be tempted to place a bet on him.

Be careful! Having checked the odds from all the major online bookmakers, we have found there’s a huge discrepancy between the odds you are offered. For example, 888Sports are currently offering odds of 80/1 for our entry, however a little digging about reveals that you could actually get a whopping 150/1 from VC Bet on the same bet! This doesn’t just stop with the UK entry, the same kind of differences can be found if you are aiming to place a bet on many countries:

Spain 28/1 with Boylesports instead of 18/1 at sportingbet
Bulgaria 50/1 with Stan James or Boylesports instead of 33/1 at William Hill
Norway 50/1 with Boylesports instead of 20/1 with Ladbrokes or Paddy Power

Ok most of the countries which have the discrepancies have little chance of winning, however the warning is check the odds carefully before placing your bet, as you could be throwing away the possibility of lots of money.

The discrepancy doesn’t just stop with the outsiders, but also with the potential favourites too. The Ukraine, which has a good chance of winning the contest (in fact is favoured second to Russia by most online bookies) has a discrepancy which could cost you pounds. VC Bet are currently offering odds of 4/1 of the Ukraine wining the Eurovision, however if you bet with Sporting Bet, you will get 7/1 basically £3 more for every £1 you bet!

You don’t have to just bet on the winner, there are plenty of other bets you can make. One I particularly like is the winner out of the big four countries. This takes away the eastern european effect, by only counting the biggest 4 countries, which are Spain, France, Germany and the UK. Currently Spain are favourite to top this group and the UK are bringing up the rear (as usual); if you fancy a punt at this market, then you’ll need to head over to Stan James. New customers to Stan James get a free matched bet up to £25.

If you head over to VC Bet, they are offering odds on the top Scandivanian country, with Sweden coming out as favourite with odds of 11/10, followed by Norway (9/4), Finland and Iceland (11/2), and Denmark at 40/1.
