1st – Hey Patrick: Rio is in Brazil…
2nd – I think they should be fair and give it to South America… but in fact, the money always speak louder and it’s probable that the US will have the Olympics Hostess’ for the thousand time…

Chicago was slated to host the 1904 Olympics, but the IOC at the time decided to switch at the last minute to St. Louis, who also hosted the 1904 World’s Fair. That may give Chicago an edge in that the IOC will want to rectify a past mistake. Chicago has also held the 1994 World’s Cup, and other games in recent history. The city’s sport history and home to many world famous athletes (Michael Jordan not the least of which!) make it the perfect place to host the games.

The biggest rival would be Rio. It’s a beautiful city and S.A. has never held a Games.

I would strongly suggest that the 31st edition of the Olympiad is offered to Doha as the Middle east have never hosted the Olympics. They have the wealth, the facilities, but I.m not sure of their ability to organize the Games which is mammoth, but with the help of IOC, I.m sure that they would be able to do so. They have experience in hosting the Asian Games. I would strongly support Doha’ s bid to host the 31st Olympiad. The IOC must be seen to be fair to the world. Doha in 2016 – here we come!

I agree with the breakdown put forward above. I’m Spanish and I wish it was for Madrid, but that’s not imposible, but remote!!!The Olympics should’ve been awarded to Madrid for 2012…now I’m afraid we’re to follow what happened to Paris which after bidding a thousand times and never got them, decided to withdraw..Madrid should’ve waited till 2020, if it was a strong bid for 2012, so would be for 2020, actually it’d have time to improve those field where it got the lowest marks (such as accomodation).But if Madrid starts bidding one year after another, we’ll get let down and disappointed, and we’ll lack the energy to get into all this mess over and over to end up…dropped out.
On the other hand, even though you claim Chicago to be the bookies’ greatest favourite, i reckon that’d be unfair. The USA, as a country, have hosted the Olympics several times (4 to be concrete) whilst, other countries have never.
I think it’d be time other countries organised them…I even think countries like Brazil should be given a chance even before than Spain, as we already hosted Barcelona’s, while Brazil has never hosted.
The same goes for Tokyo, which has organized the Olympics twice itself, not Japan as a whole, but Tokyo. It’d be another kettle of fish if the bid came from any other Japanese city.
To sum up, needless to say, my favourite is Madrid, but i can’t turn a blind eye…and I think the fairest choice would be, doubtless, RIO DE JANEIRO.
