Of course at this point, the odds simply reflect the contenders likely chances of winning, which as no-one has seen them dance yet, will be based on general fitness, previous dancing experience and (dare I say it) age – As entertaining as they were, John Sergeant, Willie Thorne and Jimmy Tarbuck were never going to waltz away with the title.

So a quick look at the odds for this years dancers, and it’s no surprise that the “elder” members of the group find themselves with some long prices – Lynda Bellingham is priced at 50/1 with William Hill, and Jo Wood can’t get any satisfaction from her odds of 66/1, courtesy of Blue Square. Meanwhile boxer Joe Calzaghe who is used to physically demanding training and renowned for being light on his feet is the bookies favourite, with Paddy Power pricing him at 4/1, closely followed by soap star Ricky Whittle at 11/2 (Sky Bet).
