Tennis French Open: Wednesdays Results and Todays Preview

Wednesday at The French Open

What a day of tennis we had yesterday. It was the final matches of the quarter final stage of the mens competition. We had two matches, Federer v Gonzalez and Monfils v Ferrer. Both of these games were packed full of ege of seat tennis. If you’re looking for fantastic you need have looked any further than the womens matches yesterday, especially the Safina and Dementieva match which was utterly brilliant. The other match was between Kuznetsova and Kaneli.

I think today we’ll make a start with the mens match between number one seed Federer and Gonzalez. Yesteray you may have read that I thought that maybe Gonzalez may just have a chance at knocking out Federer, and boy was I nearly right. Federer had real problems early in the game, so smuch so that he actually lost the first set 2-6. However with that shock, he stepped up his play, and took the second set 6-2. He continued with some excellent play to win the match 2-6 6-2 6-3 6-4.

The bookies yesterday were backing Ferrer to win the second of the days matches against Monfils. In a mixed start to the match where Monfils won the first set, lost the second before going on to take the last two sets to beat Ferrer 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-1.

Federer is set to play Monfils in the semi finals.

Things looked pretty bleak for Safina in her match against Dementieva. She lost the first set, and got to match point in the second set before digging in deep to turn her game around and finally win 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-0.

Kuznetsova on the other hand, despite a tricky first set where she was down 4-2 went on to beat Kanepi 7-5 6-2.

Kuznetsova will go into the semi finals playing Safina, will Safina have enough left to beat Kuznetsova?

Today at the French Open

Today we only have women’s matches left to play their semi finals. There is the difficult match for Dinara Safina who will be facing Svetlana Kuznetsova. The other is a battle between Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic (third and second seed respectively).

Safina will really have to tighten her game if she is to stand any chance in this match. The last two performances, though gutsy and wins, will not do her any good against Kuznetsova. She will need to come out to win from the very first ball. The bookies have Kuznetsova has favourite and the best odds to place a bet on her as I write is 8/13 with 888sport. If you think that Safina has the mettle to win this game then the best odds you can get are 8/5 with Sporting Bet.

In the Jankokic and Ivanovic things are a little less certain. Both have been playing well, and are similarly ranked. The bookies have Ivanovic as favourite and as such has slightly shorter odds. The best you can hope for at the moment is 4/9 with Stan James. Whilst Sporting Bet have 12/5 on Jankovic winning this match.

We are able to look forward to some really good tennis from these ladies today, and on to tomorrows matches.
