RUGBY UNION BETTING - NEW ZEALAND v ENGLAND - 14th June
Key Players, News
New Zealand returned to international action with a resolute 21-11 victory over Ireland last weekend, in torrential rain and freezing conditions, in Wellington. However, the appalling weather didn’t have too much of a detrimental effect on the All Blacks. They now face England at Eden Park. Veteran Greg Somerville, who can play on both sides of the scrum, replaces injured John Afoa at prop. This is the only change to the All Black starting line-up, though Sione Lauki replaces Adam Thomson on the bench. Ma’a Nonu and Conrad Smith were particularly effective against the Irish and England’s, as yet untested, centre combination of Mike Tindall and Olly Barkley are sure to find them more than a handful. The All Blacks will have shaken off any rustiness against the Irish. Their superior scrummaging and line-out skills should put them in the ascendancy. If they get going early, England may find it a long day.
England are an entirely different proposition to the 2007 World Cup finalists. Loosehead prop Andrew Sheridan is the sole survivor of that side. The unpredictable nature of the “new look” England may be one of the positive aspects of the side. Conversely, with several combinations untested at the highest level, they may simply be sitting ducks. Acting coach, Rob Andrew, has picked a side from those in the best form during the various domestic competitions. Topsy Ojo, the London Irish winger, earns his English first cap, as Wasps’ Paul Sackey is injured. Ojo faces perhaps the most formidable opposition of all on his debut, but is an exciting prospect. Confidence is high in the English camp, hoping to push the All Blacks all the way. However, it seems unlikely that the English will be able to compete with a dominant All Black pack.
It is difficult to foresee an English victory, put this is far from a vintage New Zealand team, and the sensible play may be a handicap bet on England with 19.5 points start (4/5 with Paddy Power).
