RUGBY LEAGUE – CARNEGIE CHALLENGE CUP 5th ROUND

FIXTURES FOR MAY 11TH

N.B. Given that, on paper at least, most of these fixtures are one-sided, online bookmakers offer handicap betting. Generally, the offer is 10/11 each of two, the only difference between the various layers being the handicap offered. It should be noted that prices are also offered for a handicap tie, generally 16/1.

Barrow v Wakefield
Although Barrow are undefeated in their National 2 league campaign, Wakefield have the easiest of the ties this weekend. After an easy win last weekend, Wakefield will hope to maintain the momentum against Barrow, whose spirit and motivation may not be enough.

Best handicaps: Barrow +32 (Boylesports, Paddy Power, Totesport) Wakefield -30 (Various)

Bradford v Catalans Dragons
Bradford Bulls take on last years runners-up Catalan Dragons in one of the 4 all Super League ties. Both sides are sitting in the top half of the table, although the Bulls are coming off of a home loss to Leeds, whereas the French dragons narrowly beat Harlequins. The Catalan outfit will be going into the tie feeling more confident than ever of going one step further in the competition this time round.

Best handicaps: Bradford -10 (Bet 365, Stan James, William Hill), Catalans Dragons +14 (Blue Square, skybet).

Dewsbury v Oldham
The only tie not to feature a Super League side in the 5th round, sees National League 1 side Dewsbury Rams host National League 2 side Oldham. The Rams won’t be taking anything for granted, especially as they are yet to win in the league. Oldham, on the other hand, have won all but one of their league games.

Best handicaps: -10 Dewsbury (Stan James) +14 Oldham (Paddy Power)

Harlequins v Leeds
Theoretically, a “shoe-in” for Leeds, but in the Cup, does such a thing exist?

Best handicaps: Harlequins +12 (Various), Leeds -10 (Bet365)

Hull KR v Huddersfield
Hull KR take on Huddersfield in round 5. The last time these two met in the league things finished all square in a good and even match up. Huddersfield are struggling in the league and coming off the back of another loss, although the way they performed and fought against Wolves will have given them some hope.

Best handicaps: Hull KR -4 (888sport, Blue Square), Huddersfield +6 (Various)

Widnes v Hull
Hull FC travel to National League 1 Widnes Vikings for their round 5 clash. Hull will be hoping to cruise past their lower league opponents, although the beauty of the cup is that if will and motivation turn up on the day, league positions are irrelevant. Widnes is struggling in League 1 but vow to put up a fight against Hull’s Super League talents.

Best handicaps: +20 Widnes (Various), -18 Hull (Stan James)

(All KO 15.00, except Hull KR v Huddersfield 13.15).
