World Touring Car Championship leader Gabriele Tarquini is expecting a tough challenge on the streets of Pau in his heavily-ballasted SEAT Leon TDi. The Italian is eight points clear of SEAT teammates Yvan Muller and Rickard Rydell in the title race, but will be the heaviest car at Pau with 61kg of ballast. Fellow SEAT driver Yvan Muller is relishing his home event, though. With 28kg of ballast, he is lighter than most of this rivals and is confident of closing the gap on Tarquini in the championship.

After a successful weekend in Valencia, Spain, the Chevrolet team is looking forward to the next event in the streets of Pau. If history is to repeat itself, Chevrolet will again be the team to beat. In 2007, Chevrolet dominated the first European race of the season, and last year Chevrolet won at every street course on the calendar. By doing so, Chevrolet personifies the World Touring Car Championships’ official slogan, “Real Cars, Real Racing”, more than any other manufacturer. It seems only natural that Robert Huff, Alain Menu and Nicola Larini are keen to go “street fighting” again in France.

N.Technology debuted the Honda Accord Euro R Super 2000, (developed in collaboration with JAS Motorsport), at Valencia. The Italian team now heads to Pau, France for rounds seven and eight of the FIA World Touring Car Championship. N.Technology race their car on a street circuit for the first time, but with some racing knowledge of the car now behind him, Briton James Thompson is hopeful of a successful weekend in France. Thompson commented, “I’m very excited about the races in Pau. There is nothing like going through a couple of races to know where we’re at. After Valencia, we learnt a lot about our car and how we want to work with it from now on, so there should be a significant step forward in Pau.”
