BDO World Championships
The 2008 Lakeside BDO Darts competition is set to take place from Saturday 5th January. The sport, now becoming more popular always has spectacular finishes, with the outcome never a sure bet.
One of the greatest upsets in Darts history came at the BDO World Championship in 1983, when Keith Deller only 22, beat off the countries top three players to win the competition. Paul Lim in 1990, won more money than the winner of the tournament when he scooped the bonus prize for a 9 dart finish
If it’s nail biting finals you’re after, then look no further than the BDO World Championships, the finals in 1992 and 1998 were final leg matches having tied all the way to 5 sets all and 5 legs all, really cracking game.
Last year couldn’t have been any more exhilarating, when Phill Nixon was down 6 sets to Martin Adams, only to take the next 6 sets to level the game, Adams did however manage to take the very last set and win the Championship.
This year is proving just as exciting, we are to see a replay of the finalists who have beendrawn against each other in the first round, will it be as close a finish? Will Adams manage to beat Nixon again, guess we’ll have to find out on Sunday 6th January when they come head to head, let’s see how the bookies have them pegged:

I find it quite interesting that the bookies do not have Adams as Favourite to win the competition, instead they are currently favouring the Scot Gary Anderson to win, with odds of 2/1 available at BoyleSports. Here are the latest odds compared for you from the various bookmakers to give you the best price:
The winner this year will walk away with an £80000 prize, the runner up scooping a cool £30000. There are cash bonuses too, £3000 for the highest checkout, and a whopping £52000 for anyone who can finish in just nine darts. If you fancy a punt as to anyone will manage this, you can pick up the following odds:
Whatever you’re up to over the next week, be sure to tune in to the final which takes place on 13th January, and will be shown live on the BBC.
