BEVERLEY
3:50 Siemens In Process Handicap, Class 3, 1m 100y
Richard Whitaker’s Nevada Desert (5/2), though out of sorts, has been slipping down the weights for some time, and is starting to look well- handicapped. Kevin Ryan’s Yes One (6/4) won a competitive 7f Thirsk handicap early in the month. Better over further, he nonetheless took up the running on a tight rein and ran on strongly. Evidently going the right way, but will need to defy a 7lb rise to follow up. Mick Easterby’s Fever (25/1) showed decent form for Richard Hannon last year but appears on the downgrade. Watching brief advised. Richard Fahey’s Princess Cocoa (4/1) has been a consistent AW performer since the start of the year, but seems handicapped to the hilt on that surface. Seems far better treated on turf and must go close if translating the improvement.
4:20 Best UK Racecourses On TurfTV Handicap, Class 5, 1m 1f 207y
David Elsworth’s Excape (2/1) contested two hot Newmarket maidens last summer. Gambled on for his seasonal reappearance (handicap debut), the money stayed with the bookmakers as he got upset in the stalls. For his latest run, in a similar Windsor contest, blinkers, and the loading hood left on until the last second, saw him break on terms and race with interest. Quickening well when switched, further success seems likely if stalls phobia can be overcome. Mick Channon’s Top Vision (11/2), though still a maiden, ran a respectable 4th at Chepstow on her reappearance and handicap debut. Ran on well after being held up and should be better over the longer trip. Alan Swinbank’s Lanterns of Gold (9/1) picked up a 9f juvenile maiden for Ann Duffield. There should be more to come.
MUSSELBURGH
3:40 Thoroughbred Breeders Association Golf Day Fillies’ Handicap, Class 4, 1m
Hughie Morrison’s Kasumi (7/4) made an excellent return over Ascot’s mile. She remains progressive and looks the winner here. Brian Ellison’s Keisha Kayleigh (9/2) won a low-grade Hamilton handicap, confined to jump jockeys. This will provide a far sterner test. Alan Swinbank’s Flying Valentino (5/1)has shown little of late, and seems suited by shorter.
SOUTHWELL
4:30 Book Your Tickets Online At Southwell-Racecourse.co.uk Handicap, Class 4, 5f
Luscivious (2/1) showed plenty of dash to land a competitive C & D handicap recently. 7lb penalty may not be enough to foil follow-up bid. Paul Howling’s Figaro Flyer (9/2) has done most of his winning over 6f and on Wolverhampton’s Polytrack. However, nothing wrong with his latest start here, benefitting from the strong pace and forging clear to score with something in hand. Reg Hollinshead’s Garlogs (3/1) a C &D winner on his last appearance here, followed up with a respectable 3rd in a Nottingham turf handicap, only being caught close home. Obviously better than ever and must go close here.
TOWCESTER
7:10 Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Handicap Hurdle, Class 4, 2m 3f 110y
Robert Alner’s Nils Andersen (5/2) broke his duck at the 16th time of asking at Newton Abbot. Pulled up on 3 of 4 previous starts, but no apparent fluke about this 7l victory. Will be interesting to see how he goes this time. Venetia Williams’ Coach Lane (5/2) won a competitive 2m chase at Perth on his latest start. Ran like a non-stayer on previous start at 2m 4f. According to his trainer he needs some give in the ground. Tony McCoy retains the ride on Foreign King (9/2) but substantial improvement on his previous run here is required.
LEICESTER
7:50 Sportsguru.co.uk 40th Birthday Handicap, Class 4, 1m 1f 218y
Luca Cumani’s Candy Mountain (2/1) won a moderate Apprentice Handicap at Newmarket Last September. Overall form profile is fair, but has long layoff to overcome. James Bethell’s Snowed Under (9/4) was allowed a soft lead over 10f at Beverley, lasting home bravely, though the post only just came in time. 5lb higher mark, but yard has 7-16 (44%) record with older horses over the last 5 seasons, with a level-stakes profit of £41.50. Brendan Powell’s Contra Mundum (6/1) dual winner of low key affairs on the AW, has not been seen since February. Difficult to enthuse about.
