BATH
3:00 Matthew Clark Fillies’ Handicap, Class 5, 1m 5f 22y
Mary Hambro’s Rose Dream (5/2) beat Spring Dream (5/2) by 1½l, here, in receipt of 6lb over an extended 1m 3f. There is nothing in it at the weights, both should appreciate the longer trip and it is a tough call between them. Spring Dream won this race last year when trained by Mick Channon. Mark Brisbourne’s Gamester’s Lady (7/1) has not seemed as good since returning from a long absence, but may have needed first run back and could well finish closer this time.
3:30 Matthew Clark Handicap, Class 5, 5f 161y
Richard Harris’ Misaro (6/1) put up a pleasing effort from a poor draw last time. Every chance here, especially if getting customary flying start. Nerys Dutfield’s Bold Argument (6/1) made a successful return of a 6lb lower mark. However, has bee rated higher in the past and should go close. Milton Bradley’s Harrison’s Flyer (8/1) won this race last year off a 7lb lower mark. Showed a form revival at Nottingham, is down 2lb and must go well in follow-up bid.
MUSSELBURGH
3:40 Scottish Racing Your Better Bet Handicap, Class 4, 1m 4f
Alan Swinbank’s Key Decision (3/1) has shown progressive form, upped in trip in 3 flat maidens. Likely to improve further now handicapping. Linda Perratt’s Royal Amnesty (5/1) has raced mainly on AW, but showed first form on turf when winning at Hamilton last time. Very consistent this year, but all wins have been at shorter and has shaped like non-stayer at this trip in past.
NEWTON ABBOT
3:20 Happy Retirement Mike Clarke Handicap Chase, Class 4, 2m 110y
Sasso (5/1), representing Jonjo O’ Neill and the mount of Tony McCoy, is effective on testing ground and reasonably treated on best hurdle form. However, has jumped deliberately since 2m 4f win in October. Jumping fluency needs to improve markedly. David Pipe’s Consigliere (9/4), a French hurdle winner on soft, did not last home on first 3 chase starts, but tongue-tie and blinkers seemed to work the oracle at Towcester last time. Should be suited by this sharper track and only 2lb higher. Albarino (14/1) is only 3lb higher than for a stylish fast-ground 2m win at Ludlow in October. Has appeared on the downgrade and appears better on faster ground.
WINDSOR
7:40 Get On With William Hill 0800 44 40 40 Handicap, Class 4, 1m 3f 135y
Killcara Boy (4/1) from Henry Candy’s in-form yard should make a bold bid from the front. Michael Jarvis’ First Avenue (11/4) is an interesting handicapper, having shown considerable promise in juvenile maidens, last backend. Henry Cecil’s Winter Bloom (7/1) is a half-sister to the same yard’s Phoenix Tower. Steps up again in trip after recent 3rd over 10f at Great Leighs. More Required.
WOLVERHAMPTON
8:20 Hotel & Conferencing at Wolverhampton Handicap, Class 4, 1m 141y
Axiom (6/1) didn’t have to improve to land Leicester maiden on final outing at three but earlier efforts suggest this mark isn’t beyond him. Interesting to see which way the market “speaks” on first run for Luca Cumani. Bryn Palling-trained Arthur’s Edge (5/1) put up a game front-running effort over 7f here last time. Has shown steady progress and while an uncontested lead is unlikely, further improvement may well be forthcoming.
