Willie Mullins Horses at Grand National Festival

by Jason Tynan on April 12, 2012

Willie Mullins has been training horses successfully since 1988 having worked hard for his father Paddy prior to this. A former amateur jockey in Ireland, he is eyeing a successful week at the 2012 Aintree Festival.

Horses entered

Mullins has eight entries across the Aintree Festival, including On His Own, Quiscover Fontaine and the Midnight Club for the Grand National on Saturday 14th April 2012. His other competitors include Boxer Georg, Apt Approach, Dr Machini, Thousand Stars and Morning Royalty.

Current form

In the last couple of weeks, Mullins has had three winners across a variety of races and there is no doubt that he prides himself on not going too long before one of his entries secures victory.

He has had three major wins in 2012 so far, with Champagne Fever coming home in the Champion Bumper at last month’s Cheltenham Festival. Ruby Walsh – who will ride On His Own at the 2012 Grand National – has also secured victory for Mullins in the Irish Champion Hurdle and the Hennessy Gold Cup this year.

Previous National successes

Mullins’ main success at the Grand National came in 2005 when he trained Hedgehunter to victory. Ridden by Ruby Walsh, this Irish race horse came through for a stunning victory the year after falling at the final fence.
Seven years on from the 2005 victory, Mullins will definitely be eyeing another Grand National win with On His Own the most likely contender this week.

Odds

The odds for a Mullins victory in the 2012 Grand National are 8/1, with On His Own available at 16/1, the Midnight Club at 33/1 and Quiscover Fontaine being backed at 40/1. Mullins is certainly expecting big things.
