Fenerbahce v Chelsea Betting preview

April 2, 2008

Fenerbahce v Chelsea, Champions League Quarter Final, first leg - Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, 19:45pm kick-off. Live on Sky Sports 3.

Avram Grant’s Chelsea side take on Turkish Champions Fenerbahce in the first leg of their Champions League Quarter Final match hoping to set them up for a comfortable progression into the semi finals of the competition. With Manchester United looking on course for the Permiership title, it looks like the Champions League is Chelsea’s best chance of silverware this season, and they currently stand at 7/2 third favourites with Boylesports (behind Manchester United at 2/1 and Barcelona at 3/1) to win the competition.

Chelsea take the best defensive record in the Champions League into this match, having kept clean sheets in all of their last six Champions League games, and they will be hoping to extend that run further tonight. That task won’t be easy as Fenerbahce are on form at the moment, having won their last four league matches to put them two points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig, and having dispatched Sevilla out of the Champions League in the last round.

Roberto Carlos is likely to start the game on the bench for Fenerbahce, having only just recovered from a shin injury, with fellow midfielder Ugur Boral looking to take his place. Onder Turaci is expected to fill it at right-back as Gokhan Gonul is suspended.

Chelsea welcome back Frank Lampard who has recovered from a stomach bug, whilst Didier Drogba has recovered from a knock he received in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough on Sunday. Petr Cech remains sidelined with an ankle injury, so Cudicini will continue between the sticks.
