UEFA Cup betting preview 21st February
Atletico Madrid v Bolton
Bolton take a slender 1-0 lead into the return leg of this UEFA Cup tie knowing that keeping a clean sheet will be enough to see them through to the next round. They will have to do it without defender Ricardo Gardner and Striker Heidar Helguson who both miss out through injury, whilst January signings Steinsson and Cohen are cup-tied having both already played in this seasons UEFA Cup.
totesport have installed Atletico as strong favourites to win the tie, with meagre odds of just 1/2 for the home win. Bet 365 have the Bolton win at 15/2, and Paddy Power have the draw that will see Bolton still go through at 3/1.
Bayern Munich v Aberdeen
Aberdeen’s chances of progressing to the next stage of the UEFA cup appear to be slim following their 2-2 draw in the home leg, meaning they need to win away at Munich, or score three goals or more in a draw. The Dons will be without Smith, McNamara, Byrne and Young for this crucial tie. Mark van Bommel and Willy Sagnol should return for Bayern.
VC Bet have the best odds for Aberdeen causing an upset in Germany with odds of 7/1 for the draw and a massive 25/1 for the win – I dare say a few Dons fans will be taking them up on their offer at that price! Should form and league standings dictate the outcome however, Boylesports have the Bayern victory at just 1/6.
Everton v SK Brann
Everton managed a 2-0 away victory in the first leg, so progress should be a formality at Goodison Park, unless SK Brann can get an early goal to make a game of it. David Moyes has no new injury worries, as the only player on the Goodison Park treatment table at the moment is Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner, who is on loan at Everton. Arteta and Gravesen who both missed the first leg will return.
VC Bet offer the best odds for the outsiders to cause a major shock, with the SK BRann victory available at 14/1. Blue Square have the home win at 2/7 whilst Bet 365 have the draw at 17/4.
Panathinaikos v Rangers
The first leg of this tie ended in a 0-0 stalemate, so it’s winner takes all in Greece, with Rangers knowing that they have to score to stand any chance of progressing. Walter Smith has no new injury worries as his squad, which includes striker Daniel Cousins, whose move to Fulham is still awaiting aproval from Fifa, travel to Athens for this winner-takes-all tie.
Blue Square are offering 10/11 for the home win, whilst VC Bet will give you 12/5 for the draw and 17/5 for Rangers to leave Greece with the victory.
Tottenham v Slavia Prague
Spurs won the first leg 2-1, and those two away goals should be enough to see them through to the last 16 as long as they can keep it tight at White Hart Lane. They may have one eye on Sunday’s Carling Cup Final against Chelsea though, and may not risk key players such as Ledley King who is coming back from a knee injury. Dawson, Hutton, Bale, Boateng, Gilberto and Assou-Ekotto all miss out too.
Bet365 have the best odds for the upset, with Slavia Prague priced at 11/1, and the draw at 9/2. VC Bet have installed Spurs as favourites, with odds of just 3/10 for a victory for the Spurs.
