Champions League Betting preview 19th & 20th February
Liverpool v Inter Milan
Liverpool will be looking to put the humiliation of their FA Cup defeat at the hands of Barnsley by bouncing back in style against Inter at Anfield. Key players Gerrard, Reina, Mascherano and Arbeloa all return to the side for this crucial Champions League tie, the outcome of which could greatly affect Rafa Benitez’s job prospects on merseyside – Given their poor recent league form, Champions League qualification for next season is far from assured, and they badly need a result against the Serie A league leaders.
Inter are a tempting 2/1 with VC Bet to repeat what Barnsley managed to do with such ease at the weekend, however Boyle Sports ake Liverpool slight favourites with currect odds of 7/4. totesport have the draw at 21/10.
Olympiakos v Chelsea
Chelsea arrived in Greece on sunday in the middle of a snowstorm, and most of Monday was spent clearing the pitch at the Karaiskaki stadium that is home to the Greek league leaders to ensure the game could go ahead. Avram Grant will rest John Terry, Frank Lampard and Nicolas Anelka from the starting XI, allowing Didier Drogba to play as a lone striker in this first-ever meeting between these two sides in Europe. this is the first time that Olympiakos have reached the knock-out stages of the Champions League since losing to Juventus at the Quarter-final stage in 1998-99.
BlueSq have Chelsea as strong favourites in this tie, with Evens being the best available odds on a Chelsea win. VC Bet will give you 15/4 for the Olympiakos victory, and 23/10 for the draw.
Arsenal v AC Milan
Defending Champions League holders AC Milan are the visitors to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening as Arsenal arguably face the toughest task of any of the Home Nations’ sides, as they look to forget about their 4-0 drubbing by Manchester United in the FA Cup at the weekend. Arsene Wenger will look to field his strongest possible side, with Emmanuel Adebayor recalled to the starting XI in a bid to continue their streak of having never been knocked out of Europe by an Italian club.
Again VC Bet are tempting, with nice odds of 14/5 for Milan to prosper at the Emirates. Bet365 have Arsenal as strong favourites at just 6/5. Boyle Sports complete the setup with 9/4 for the draw.
Celtic v Barcelona
Barcelona will field a strong side at Celtic Park on Wednesday night, with Henry, Messi, Ronaldinho and Eto’o all named in the squad at the expense of Zambrotta, Edmilson and Krkic. Celtic will miss Scott Brown through suspension and Andreas Hinkel is cup-tied. Of the previous six European encounters between these two sides, 3 have ended in a draw, whilst Barca just edge the victories 2 to 1. Can Celtic even things up?
Barca are strong favourites to win this match, with odds of just 10/11 being the best available from Boylesports, whilst once again VC Bet have some tempting odds for the upset – 19/5 on a Celtic win, whilst Bet365 will give you 23/10 for the draw.
Lyon v Man United
Olympique Lyon host Manchester United as they look to preserve their record of remainnig unbeaten in their last four home Champions League matches, whilst United are one of three teams to remain unbeaten in this seasons competition (The others being Chelsea and Barcelona). Ryan Giggs should take part in his 100th Champions League game for the Red Devils, making him the eighth player to have reached that milestone since making his debut against IFK Gothenburg on 14th September 1994 in a 4-2 win.
VC Bet have Lyon as 23/10 outsiders in this match, whilst skybet will give you 9/4 for Lyon to preserve that unbeaten home record with a draw. Blue Square have the best odds for the Manchester United win with a fairly generous 11/8.
