UEFA Cup Betting Preview 13th Feb
Rangers v Panathinaikos
Steven Whittaker looks set to miss out for Rangers in the last-32 match against the league leaders from Greece, as Walter Smith looks to take the Glasgow side into the final 16. They will have to be at the top of their game to prevent Panathinaikos from winning at Ibrox – In the return fixture earlier in the compeition, it was the Greek side that ran out comfortable 3-0 victors.
Having said that, there are some tempting odds for a Panathinaikos win – VC Bet at 31/10 is the best we could find, and that’s some good odds. Boyle Sports have Rangers as strong faves, with odds of just 11/10 being the best available. Ladbrokes complete the betting set with 12/5 for the draw.
SK Brann v Everton
Everton face a trip to Norweigan side SK Brann in their final-32 game. Yakubu is recalled after being dropped from their victory over reading at the weekend, whilststeven Pienaar, Mikel Arteta and ThomasGravesen all miss out through injury. Brann should be fresh, having only played four UEFA cup group games since their local league finished in November.
Everton are strong favourites, with the best betting odds currently 3/4 with bet365. Ladbrokes have SK Brann to win at 9/2, and totesport will giev you 13/5 for a stalemate.
Aberdeen v Bayern Munich
Aberdeen will be glad of the break from the league schedule, having conceded nine goals in their last two domestic league games. They will have no respite though as they face a strong Bayern Munich side that is looking to go all the way in this competition, and complete a possible double as they currently top the Bundesliga.
If the bookies are to be believed, there’s only one possible outcome in this match, with odds all the way out at 8/1 for a home win (bet365, who have the draw at 16/5), whilst a bet on Bayern Munich to win will see a return of just 4/9 (Boyle Sports)
Bolton v Atletico Madrid
Madrid are the visitors to the Reebok Stadium on Thursday night for the first leg of this crucial final-32 game for Gary Megson’s men, who are set to hand European debuts to Matty Taylor and Gary Cahill. Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan could feature for Madrid, having scored a brace against Racing Santander at the weekend.
This one could go either way, and that’s very much reflected in the odds, with bet365 offering 19/10 for a Bolton victory, and totesport giving you 6/4 for a Madrid win.
Slavia Prague v Tottenham Hotspur
New Spurs signing Alan Hutton will take no part in the UEFA Cup this season. Right back Hutton, whom Spurs signed for £9m in the January transfer window had played for his former club Rangers in the Champions League, and as they have now dropped into the UEFA Cup, Hutton is ineligible to play. Michael Dawson also misses out through a thigh injury sustained in Spur’s 3-0 win at Derby County.
Bet365 have the best betting odds for Slavia Prague, with current odds being 7/2. They also have the odds for a draw at 12/5. The best odds for a Spurs win at the moment can be found at Boyle Sports (currently 10/11).
