Premiership Betting 10th February 2008

Manchester United v Manchester City

The Manchester Derby is the Sunday lunchtime kickoff, live on Sky Sports 1, and comes at the end of a week-long commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Munich Air disaster which resulted in the deaths of 23 people, including eight of the original “Busby Babes”. An emotional minutes silence will be observed before the game, and the two teams will be sporting a one-off 1950′s style kit, with no sponsors, no names, and numbered 1 to 11.

City will be hoping to put one over on their local rivals and obtain their first win in five Premiership games, whilst Alex Ferguson will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten home record, and make it 10 wins out of 12 premiership games before tackling a couple of tough cup games – Arsenal in the FA Cup followed by Lyon in the Champions League.

Ladbrokes have installed United as strong favourites to run out winners in the Derby match, with lean odds of just 1/3, whilst Boylesports will give you 12/1 for a City win – I reckon there’ll be a few blue pounds being spent on those odds! VC Bet have the draw at 21/5.

Chelsea v Liverpool

Liverpool’s title challenge may be as good as finished, but they still hope to have a say in where the title ends up, and they would love to put a spanner in Chelsea’s plans with a win at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. Frank Lampard could return from injury for Chelsea who will be missing Shevchenko and Terry. Liverpool will be without Torres, Voronin, Aurelio, Arbeloa, Alonso and Agger (anyone else beginning with “A”?), whilst Ryan Babel could also miss out due to an ankle injury.

Chelsea have yet to lose a game at home in nearly two years, whilst Liverpool’s 3-0 win over relgation strugglers Sunderland last week was their first win in six premiership matches.

VC Bet have Chelsea placed as favourites to notch up another victory with the best available odds being Evens. Bet365 will give you 7/2 for a Liverpool win, whilst Boylesports are selling the draw at 9/4.
