Premiership Betting Preview 2nd February

Birmingham v Derby

David Murphy joins the Birmingham squad after his £1.5m transfer from Hibs. James McFadden should start, and Alex McLeish may also give a start to Mauro Zarate. Derby new boys Alan Stubbs and Roy Carroll could make starts whilst Paul Jewell waits on international clearance for Mile Sterjovski.

It’s now almost certain that Derby will be making a swift return to the Championship from whence they came. It will be interesting to see whether The Blues will be doing the same, and this match will have a massive impact on that. Bet365 have Birmingham as the 8/13 favourites, with Derby at 11/2 for their second win of the season. The draw at 11/4 (William Hill) looks attractive.

Blackburn v Everton

Blackburn will be looking to extend a run of games that has seen them avoid defeat in the league since Christmas, whilst Everton will be looking to push on towards their Champions League target and bragging rights over their Merseyside neighbours. Blackburn have the worst disciplinary record in the league with 5 red cards and 47 yellow cards to their name, whilst Everton are the best behaved, with just 3 red and 25 yellows.

Boyle Sports have Blackburn at 7/5 for the victory, and the draw at 9/4, whilst Bet365 offer the best odds on an Everton win at 21/10.

Liverpool v Sunderland

Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at West Ham in midweek, whilst Roy Keane’s Sunderland will be looking to build on their victory over Birmingham and put some daylight between themselves and the relegation places. It’s been five league games without a win for Rafa Benitez, and the Anfield faithful will hope that sequence will come to and end at last. Kickoff is at 17:15, live on Setanta Sports 1.

Bet365 have Liverpool at 3/10 strong favourites, whilst Boyle Sports’ 14/1 on the Black Cats looks very tempting, as does the 4/1 they are offering on the draw.

Man City v Arsenal

Micah Richards could return from a knee injury to face Arsenal at the City of Manchester stadium in the lunchtime kickoff (12:45, live on Sky Sports 1). Benjani will not take part after his transfer from Portsmouth hit a hitch. Arsenal will be without Tomas Rosicky, Robin van Persie, Denilson and Johan Djourou as they look to regain first place in the premiership (at least until Man United’s game later in the afternoon).

It’s hard to argue with Boyle Sports value of an arsenal victory at the moment (5/6), although Bet365′s best offer of 15/4 for a home win offers good value.

Postmouth v Chelsea

Jermain Defoe should make his Pompey debut at Fratton Park for the visit of former Portsmouth Director of Football Avran Grant’s Chelsea, who will set a new club record of ten straight wins with victory over Harry Redknapp’s blues. A home win would be Harry’s 50th Premier League win as pompey boss, and their first win against a top four side this season.

Portsmouth’s dismal home record, coupled with Chelsea’s excellent form means Blue Square offer the best odds for a home win of 4/1, with Chelsea at 8/11 (Boyle Sports).

Reading v Bolton

Shane Long and Dave Kitson should return to the Reading squad to face Gary Megson’s Bolton side, whose new signing Grzegorz Rasiak should also feature. Reading are on their worst run of five consecutive defeats in the premier league, and need to start picking up points against the relegation rivals if they are to avoid getting sucked into the relegation battle.

Blue Square have Reading at 11/10, whilst those who fancy a Bolton win should head to bet365 who will offer you 11/4. Totespotr have the draw at 23/10.

Spurs v Man Utd

In a re-match of the FA Cup fourth round tie that United ran out comfortable winners of at Old Trafford, Gilberto and Alan Hutton could both be handed debuts as Juande Ramos looks for his seventh win in 14 premiership games since taking over from Martin Jol in November. United are looking for their seventh win a row which will keep them at the premier league summit regardless of Arsenal’s match against Man City at lunchtime.

The bookies see a repeat of the FA Cup match, with Spurs at 7/2 (bet365) and Man United 10/11 (Blue Square).

Wigan v West Ham

Wigan could find themselves in the nosebleed territory of 14th place with a win over West Ham at the JJB stadium, however they remain well and truly in the relegation battleground as Derby aside, it is incredibly tight at the bottom this year. West Ham have won both previous games against Wigan at the JJB, whilst Wigan have won 3 out of the 10 matchs played since the arrival of Steve Bruce.

Bet365 will give you 7/4 for the home win, whilst Paddy Power’s best odds are 17/10 for a Hammers victory.
