Champions League Preview 27th November

November 27, 2007

Tuesday’s Champions League Football

The final Champions League fixtures of November kick off on Tuesday night, and we’ve got some great value offers to make for some exciting betting!

The first big game on Tuesday night sees Man Utd host S. Lisbon at Old Trafford (live on ITV1, k/o 7:45pm). United’s European form has been fantastic this season, as they are the only Champions League participants with maximum points, having notched up 4 successive wins in the competition. However, they can expect fierce resistance from S. Lisbon, who need a win to maintain their hopes of beating AS Roma to second place in Group F. With Sporting old boys Nani and C. Ronaldo looking to start the match, expect them to be fired up against their old team. Man Utd have been touted as favourites for this match, with Better pricing them at 4/9 to get the home win. With S. Lisbon given odds of 1/2 to get an unlikely win, the safe money is on Man Utd to get the three points.

BGbet are offering to refund all losing first goalscorer bets on Man Utd v S. Lisbon if Nani scores at anytime in this match.

The other game of interest for British supporters has Sevilla facing Arsenal at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán (live on ITV4, k/o 7:45pm). Arsenal secured their place in the Champions League first knockout round three weeks ago but they will have to avoid defeat at Sevilla if they wish to finish Group H as leaders. With three successive victories following their defeat at the Emirates Stadium on matchday 1, Sevilla are just a point behind and will overtake the Gunners should they beat them at home. Bookmakers have placed Sevilla as favourites for this match, with centrebet offering 5/4 on a Sevilla win and VC Bet pricing Arsenal at 19/10 to take all 3 points win.

BGbet are offering to refund all losing first goalscorer bets on Sevilla v Arsenal if Emmanuel Adebayor scores at anytime in this match.

Both these matches are part of VC Bet’s fantastic enhanced doubles and multiples offers, such as 9/1 that Man Utd and Sevilla will both win and 54/1 for both Tevez and Adebayor to score first in their respective matches.

Wednesday’s Champions League Football

Wednesday night’s action kicks off with Liverpool v Porto at Anfield (live on Sky Sports 2, k/o 7:45pm).

Liverpool’s record 8-0 defeat of Besiktas has breathed new momentum into their campaign, with what had begun to look like a forlorn dream after Benitez’ men had followed their initial 1-1 draw in Porto with successive defeats, 1-0 at home to Marseille and 2-1 at Besiktas. Liverpool still have a lot of work to do but are determined Portuguese opposition will not end their interest in Europe’s premier club competition for the second time in three years. Group A leaders Porto travel to Anfield in high spirits and will be looking to get 3 points to guarantee their passage to the knockout stages.

After Liverpool’s last European performance, bookmakers have priced them as favourites at home, with Better offering 2/5 on a win for the Reds and centrebet offering odds of 7/1 on Porto pulling off the result that kills Liverpool’s Champions League ambitions.

BGbet are offering to refund all losing first goalscorer bets on Liverpool v Porto if Steven Gerrard scores at anytime in this match.

Elsewhere on Wednesday night, Chelsea face Rosenborg at the Lerkendal Stadion (live on Sky Sports Xtra, k/o 7:45pm). The last time these two teams met in the first game of Group B it finished 1-1 at Stamford Bridge, a game Chelsea were expected to win. As it transpired, Rosenborg have been able to maintain this level of performance and will be closer to qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition if they are able to gain maximum points from this match.

Although Rosenborg have performed fantastically well in this campaign, bookmakers have priced Chelsea as favourites at 4/7 (VC Bet) with Better offering 9/2 on Rosenborg continuing their impressive Champions League run.

BGbet are offering to refund all losing first goalscorer bets on Rosenborg v Chelsea if Joe Cole scores at anytime in this match.

VC Bet are offering enhanced doubles and multiples offers, so if you want to team up Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd, Celtic and Chelsea, VC Bet are offering odds of 20/1 that they all win their matches and 30/1 that Torres and Drogba both score first during the Liverpool v Porto and Rosenborg v Chelsea matches respectively.

Remember there are a number of free bet offers available online. Such as BGbet and Betterbet’s £25 free bets for all new customers, centrebet’s £20 free bet new customer offer and VC Bet’s bet £50 get a free £50 bet, place another 5 bets of £10 or more and get another £50 free bet promotion. So, if you fancy a bet on the Champions League this week, why not take advantage of one or more of these fantastic sign up offers.

Next England Manager odds

November 22, 2007

It came as no surprise following England’s failure to qualify for Euro 2008 after their loss to Croatia last night that the FA have acted swiftly in sacking Steve McLaren (and his assistant Terry Venables). All the speculation now is over who will replace Second Choice Steve in the job.

One thing to note is that whoever the next England Manager is, he will have plenty of time to mould his team, with the next meaningful games (qualifying games for the 2010 World Cup) a year away. And they’ll be free to scout the potential opponents at Euro 2008 in Austria, thanks to the current squads lack of ability (or some might say lack of effort)

Early favourite for the poisoned chalice is former Chelski manager Jose Mourinho (4/1), and Martin O’Neill (also 4/1) - Whilst Mourinho is the choice of many, he may prefer the more hands-on management of club football for a few more years yet. O’Neill was turned down for the job after Sven left, so will he want to put his name in the hat again?

Fabio Capello (8/1) is the first mananger to publically decalre he would like the job. Which probably means he’s desperate, and won’t get it. That and he’s a bit controversial and defensive. Alan Shearer (with no managerial experience whatsoever?!) is at 16/1, so keep your money in your pocket for that one. “Big Phil” Scolari is out at 20/1 - although the FA’s first choice last time, the fact he turned them donw will no doubt be held against him (that and the fact his Portuguese team liked to cheat at evey opportunity).

You’ve then got the usual names that won’t get the job (Stuart Pearce 25/1 , Sam Allardyce 25/1, Alan Curbishley 40/1) . If you think that the FA would like to hire Terry Venables after sacking him twice (most recently, this morning!), then he is available at 40/1 alongside Mark Hughes and Jurgen Klinsmann.

Martin Jol looks worth a punt at 66/1, but then you enter true outsider territory: Kevin Keegan and Paul Ince, Dennis Wise and Glenn Hoddle all out at 100/1, and if you really fancy throwing your money away, then why not have a few quid on failed Republic of Ireland manager Steve Staunton at 1000/1

All odds are correct at 12:50pm on Thursday 22nd November. For the very latest odds, please see above, or click here.
