Ireland continue perfect start
Ireland regained their place at the top of Pool C with another impressive performance at this World Cup, running out comfortable 62-12 victors against Russia in Rotorua. The Irish showed no signs of any hangover from their stunning win against Australia last week, with a professional performance to return to the top of the table, a display which included nine tries for the Irish with the ever-improving Russians grabbing two of their own.
Head coach Declan Kidney had made 10 changes from the Australia victory but the new-look team continued the momentum of their compatriots and controlled the game from the off. The match was all but over as a contest by the half-time break, with early tries by Fergus McFadden and Sean O’Brien followed up with Issac Boss…

New Zealand and France ready to do battle
The Rugby World Cup is well under way and the New Zealand All Blacks have shown exactly why they are the odds-on favourite to lift the winner’s trophy at the end of the tournament with two good opening performances.
The All Blacks were solid winners against Toga by 41-10 then beat Japan by 83-7 and now face a tough test against France.
However, despite some commentators claiming that New Zealand were not at their best during the first two matches the bookmakers seem to disagree. New Zealand have been priced at 1/9 to beat France whilst the French are available at best odds of 17/2 to claim victory on the day.
These odds suggest that the French have no chance of claiming the win and they…

Waldrom arrives ‘home’ to play ‘away’
With continued concerns over Nick Easter’s back injury, England have called up Leicester back-row forward Thomas Waldrom to the New Zealand as back up to the squad. The 28-year old is yet to be announced as injured prop Andrew Sheridan’s replacement, but with both number-eight Easter and flanker Lewis Moody struggling with fitness then Martin Johnson could well announce Waldrom as the man who comes in to provide cover.
Johnson was quick to point out Waldrom was, at the moment at least, temporary cover, although the strength in numbers of front-rowers as opposed to the loose-forwards it would surely seem sensible to include the 28-year-old in the squad proper now Sheridan has returned home.
“Nick Easter is still suffering from a sore back so we will be bringing…

Ireland fail to deliver on the world stage again
Ireland have a history of failing to deliver their best performances at World Cups, and on the showing from their opening fixture of their 2011 campaign, this trend appears unlikely to change any time soon. There will be a number of mitigating factors to take into account of course – the USA were organised and eager to impress given that it was both the first match of their tournament – but Ireland never looked like world beaters. Anyone looking at the Rugby World Cup betting should bear this in mind.
Granted, their own build-up to this tournament was no more than a series of defeats against varying opposition, but the recent noise from the camp is that morale is high and the confidence is flowing, so does…

France ring the changes
France coach Marc Lievremont has made a whole host of changes for his side’s clash with minnows Canada.
France opened their World Cup campaign with an unconvincing 47-21 victory over minnows Japan in North Harbour.
Julien Pierre, Francois Trinh-Duc, Vincent Clerc, Lionel Nallet, Pascal Pape and Morgan Parra all touched down for five-pointers, while Dimitri Yachvili kicked his way to 17 points as the French dug in to hold on.
However as a result of their disappointing display, Lievremont has wielded the axe to send out a strong message to his players.
Only hooker William Servat and fly-half Francois Trinh-Duc keep their places in the side after the pair showed signs of impressing against the Japanese.
Captain Thierry Dusautoir had an indifferent opening match and…

England look to bounce back from Argentina farce
The men in black were present at England’s dismal World Cup opener against Argentina , but not the ones that Martin Johnson would have liked to have seen.
Rather than having his memory wiped of this dreary encounter by two secret agents, Johnson was forced to sit through a rather alien encounter with his own band of misfits in a black kit that at least seemed to fit the mood if not the performance usually seen by that other side in black.
Now the dust has settled on England’s efforts in Dunedin, what can England do now that will dramatically alter their trajectory after such an insipid display?
While England deserve to be criticised for their efforts, the players in an Argentina Jersey deserve at least…

Boks fired warning by Gatland
Defending champions, South Africa will have to get their World Cup defence off to a bright start if they are to avoid a group stage upset.
The Springboks begin their campaign with a potential banana-skin fixture against Wales, who have fired a defiant warning to their illustrious opposition.
Wales Coach, Warren Gatland has admitted that he is confident his side has what it takes to beat South Africa.
“We have pushed South Africa close in recent encounters and it is about getting over the line,” Gatland said.
“We know it will be tough and we have to go there with confidence, putting out our best side to get a performance and a victory.
“It is a waste of time getting on the plane unless…

Romanians Looking to Claim Bragging Rights
At this year’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, Romania and Georgia couldn’t have been handed a much tougher group stage draw. Having been put in Pool B along with England, Scotland and Argentina, the likelihood of either of them finishing first or second amongst such exulted company and therefore qualifying for the quarter-finals is minimal. Perhaps why both sides admit that their final game in the group against one another will be the one that both nations will be most disappointed to lose. Those looking forward to the World cup rugby betting will be very interested in this group.
England centre Mike Tindall this week has spoken out about the immensely physical approach adopted by the Georgians when they played each other at the 2003 World Cup…
