Horse Racing Preview Thursday 22nd May

RACING PREVIEW – 22nd May – GOODWOOD, HAYDOCK, WETHERBY

N.B. Any prices are intended as a guide only.

GOODWOOD

2:50 Letheby & Christopher Festival Stakes, Listed Race, 1m 1f 192y

The impressive 2006 St Leger winner Sixties Icon put up a far better performance in Newmarket’s Jockey Club Stakes, earlier this month. Well placed, going nicely, he cruised up to Tranquil Tiger running into the Dip, but was then almost immediately swamped by Getaway, who challenged on his outside and was soon on top. However, this was much more like it and must take the beating. Blue Ksar was a respectable 3rd in October’s Darley Stakes at Newmarket. However, he carried his head high when asked to assert and has a long layoff to overcome. Spice…

Horse Racing Preview Wednesday 21st May 2008

RACING PREVIEW – WEDNESDAY 21st MAY – AYR, GOODWOOD, KELSO

GOODWOOD

2:50 David Wilson Homes Stakes (Registered As The Cocked Hat Stakes), Listed Race, Colts & Geldings, 1m 3f

Trainer Mick Channon has won this event for the past two seasons and has two runners: Siberian Tiger (12/1) graduated from handicaps, claiming Listed honours at Pontefract last season, and a fine fourth at Newmarket back in handicap company last time. Plenty on at the weights and pedigree suggests longer trip may not be ideal. Meeriss (10/1) Regularly front-runs under Darryll Holland and nicked a Listed race over 1m here in September. Disappointed in similar company over this trip at Hamilton last week and looks up against it. Whistledownwind (15/8) just failed, by a neck, to…

Horse Racing Preview 20th May 2008 – Beverley, Musselburgh, Southwell, Towcester and Leicester

RACING PREVIEW – MAY 20th – BEVERLEY, MUSSELBURGH, LEICESTER, SOUTHWELL, TOWCESTER

N.B. Any prices quoted are intended as a guide only

BEVERLEY

3:50 Siemens In Process Handicap, Class 3, 1m 100y

Richard Whitaker’s Nevada Desert (5/2), though out of sorts, has been slipping down the weights for some time, and is starting to look well- handicapped. Kevin Ryan’s Yes One (6/4) won a competitive 7f Thirsk handicap early in the month. Better over further, he nonetheless took up the running on a tight rein and ran on strongly. Evidently going the right way, but will need to defy a 7lb rise to follow up. Mick Easterby’s Fever (25/1) showed decent form for Richard Hannon last year but appears on the downgrade. Watching brief advised. Richard…

Horse Racing Preview Monday 19th May 2008

RACING PREVIEW – May 19th – BATH, MUSSELBURGH, NEWTON ABBOT, WINDSOR, WOLVERHAMPTON

N.B. Any prices quoted are intended as a guide only

BATH

3:00 Matthew Clark Fillies’ Handicap, Class 5, 1m 5f 22y

Mary Hambro’s Rose Dream (5/2) beat Spring Dream (5/2) by 1½l, here, in receipt of 6lb over an extended 1m 3f. There is nothing in it at the weights, both should appreciate the longer trip and it is a tough call between them. Spring Dream won this race last year when trained by Mick Channon. Mark Brisbourne’s Gamester’s Lady (7/1) has not seemed as good since returning from a long absence, but may have needed first run back and could well finish closer this time.

3:30 Matthew Clark Handicap, Class 5…

Horse Racing Preview Sunday May 18th: Fakenham, Market Rasen and Ripon

RACING PREVIEW MAY 18th – FAKENHAM, MARKET RASEN, RIPON

N.B. Most online bookmakers will have prices available from Sunday morning – see individual websites for details.

RIPON

3:10 Ripon, Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse Handicap, Class 2, 1m

David Nicholls’ Fremen has performed creditably in some classy handicaps. Is undoubtedly better over a mile than shorter, acts on any ground, has slipped a few pounds in the weights and has his easiest assignment for some time. Linda Perratt’s Jewelled Dagger made the running at Ripon and kept on well to be a clear second. Four times a winner last season, resulting in a hike of some 40lb in the handicap. However, remains well capable of prevailing from current mark. John Quinn’s Another Bottle, a 5-times hurdles winner…

Horse Racing Preview Friday May 16th 2008

RACING PREVIEW – 16th MAY – Aintree, Hamilton, Newbury, Newcastle, Newmarket, York

YORK

2:40 Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup, Group 2, 1m 6f

Rod Millman’s Sergeant Cecil has taken on almost legendary status in recent seasons. Won this last year (Geordieland 2nd) but poorer form since, including reappearance over 1m 4f. Still merits respect.

Aidan O’Brien’s Honolulu put up creditable efforts to be runner-up in the Ebor (here) and 3rd in the St Leger. Looked inexperienced on occasions, and likely to improve this term.

Michael Jarvis’ Royal And Regal (formerly with Andre Fabre) won a 1m 4f Newbury Group 3 on reappearance.
Also successful in last year’s 2m Jockey Club at Newmarket. Major fancy over ideal trip.

Betting Forecast: 15/8 Honolulu, 3/1 Royal And…

RACING PREVIEW MAY 17th – BANGOR, DONCASTER, NEWBURY, NEWMARKET, THIRSK, UTTOXETER

N.B. – Any prices indicated, unless otherwise stated, are forecasts only.

NEWBURY

2:10 Enter The Flat ToteTentoFollow Stakes, Listed Race, 1m 5f 61y

Saeed Bin Suroor’s Regal Flush (11/10) took the step up from handicap company to finish a close 4th in the St. Leger. Should continue of the upgrade, and looks the likely winner. Tranquil Tiger, Malt or Mash and Balkan Knight all contested the same event of their last start, the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes over 12f at Newmarket. Tranquil Tiger (11/4) stays further and a stronger gallop may have suited better. Malt or Mash (6/1) pulled very hard in the slow early stages, doing himself no favours. The versatile Balkan…
