Carling Cup Odds
Carling Cup Winners
The Football League Cup, currently known, for sponsorship reasons, as the Carling Cup, is a knockout competition, open to the 92 teams comprising the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two. For example, if the Carling Cup winners have already qualified for the UEFA Champions’ League, the UEFA Cup place is give to the highest-placed, non-European qualifier in the Premiership. Nine out of last ten finals have been won by Premier League sides, justifying their Carling Cup odds, the only exception being Leicester City’s 2-1 triumph over Tranmere in 2000. In the same period, the top clubs…

Bet365 have England at 1/4 to qualify and 11/4 to fail.
The Football Association has set England coach Fabio Capello the target of reaching at least the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup or Euro 2012. It is one of a series of ambitious aims set out by the FA in a wide-ranging review. WORLD CUP BETTING – BET ON THE 2010 WORLD CUP
For betting purposes, it seems safe to rule out Africa, Asia and Oceania as suppliers of the 2010 World Cup winners, along with hosts South Africa. This leaves South America and Europe upon which to concentrate. Four teams from ten qualify from the CONMEBOL (South America), with the fifth-placed side involved in a playoff with a CONCACAF (Caribbean, Central and North American Confederation) nation. Coca-Cola League Two Preview 2008/09
FOOTBALL – LEAGUE TWO 2008-09 SEASON PREVIEW
League Two looks to be the most open division of all, with bookmakers going 9/1 the field and nine teams at 12/1 or less to win the title. A new-look Darlington, at 10/1, heads the shortlist, with last season’s 5th placed Rochdale a close second at 12/1 and Wycombe not that far behind, at the same price. The title shortlist is completed by relegated Port Vale, at 14/1 and Lincoln at a speculative 25/1.
The battle for promotion places looks equally competitive, with seven teams priced at 3/1 or less to be playing League One football next season. Aldershot Town made a nonsense of the Blue Square Premier last season and are fancied to be leading promotion contenders, at least (11/2 for…

FOOTBALL – LEAGUE ONE 2008-09 SEASON PREVIEW
Coca-Cola League One seems another fairly open contest, though there is one outstanding side in the race for the title. Leeds United, having started the 2007-08 season on -15 points by virtue of being in administration. However, Leeds won 27 of their 46 games, with 10 draws and only 9 losses, finishing 5th. Starting on equal terms, they will be considered certainties by many and SkyBet’s 7/2 to win the League and Evens about promotion both look tempting. However, a word of warning – your correspondent has been a fan for close to 40 years and Leeds’ ability to surprise comes as no great shock, ranging from last year’s “nearly promotion” season from an “impossible” position, to the 1-0 loss to Bob Stokoe’s…
