Liverpool v Chelsea betting preview

Liverpool v Chelsea, Champions League semi-final, first leg. Anfield, 19:45 kickoff.

Liverpool meet Chelsea in the Champions League for the fourth season in a row, and if previous meetings are anything to go by, don’t expect a goal-fest: The previous six legs have produced a grand total of three goals. Liverpool are the only English Club to have knocked Avram Grant’s side out of Europe - not only that, but they’ve done it twice too, in the previous two times these sides met in the semi-finals.
Match Odds:

  • Liverpool - 13/10 (Bet 365)
  • Draw - 21/10 (VC Bet)
  • Chelsea - 13/5 (Skybet)

This is the fourth time that Chelsea have reached the semi-final stage of the Champions League, and they will be hoping for better luck than the previous three encounters, when they exited the competition each time. Liverpool by contrast have progressed all the way to the final seven times, and were triumphant there on no less than five occasions. Chelsea are currently 3/1 second-favourites to win the Champions League (Ladbrokes), whilst Liverpool are only marginally behind them on 10/3 (Totesport, William Hill, Bet 365 and others).
Correct Score Odds:

  • Liverpool to win 1-0 - 5/1 (Ladbrokes)

  • Liverpool to win 2-0 - 9/1 (Stan James)
  • Chelsea to win 2-0 - 16/1 (Bet365)

  • Chelsea to win 2-1 - 11/1 (William Hill)
  • 0-0 Draw - 6/1 (Boylesports)
  • 1-1 Draw - 6/1 (Skybet)
  • 2-2 draw - 16/1 (Blue Square)

Fenerbahce v Chelsea Betting preview

Fenerbahce v Chelsea, Champions League Quarter Final, first leg - Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, 19:45pm kick-off. Live on Sky Sports 3.

Avram Grant’s Chelsea side take on Turkish Champions Fenerbahce in the first leg of their Champions League Quarter Final match hoping to set them up for a comfortable progression into the semi finals of the competition. With Manchester United looking on course for the Permiership title, it looks like the Champions League is Chelsea’s best chance of silverware this season, and they currently stand at 7/2 third favourites with Boylesports (behind Manchester United at 2/1 and Barcelona at 3/1) to win the competition.

Chelsea take the best defensive record in the Champions League into this match, having kept clean sheets in all of their last six Champions League games, and they will be hoping to extend that run further tonight. That task won’t be easy as Fenerbahce are on form at the moment, having won their last four league matches to put them two points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig, and having dispatched Sevilla out of the Champions League in the last round.…

Arsenal v Liverpool Champions League Betting preview

Arsenal v Liverpool - Champions League Quarter Final, first leg. Emirates Stadium, Wednesday 2nd april, 19:45 kick-off. Live on Sky Sports 2.

There is guaranteed to be an English side in the semi-final of the Champions League this year as Arsenal meet Liverpool in the Quarter Finals. The first leg of the tie sees Arsenal with the home advantage as they continue their quest for the one trophy that has thus far eluded manager Arsene Wenger, whilst Liverpool will be hoping for a record sixth Champions League trophy.

Arsenal’s top scorer Emmanuel Adebayor returns to the squad as his side kick off the first of three consecutive games against Rafa Benitez’s men, with a Premiership fixture on Saturday sandwiched between the two European matches. This is the first time that the two sides have ever met in European competition. Interestingly, between them the two sides have played seven games against English opponents in Europe, andfailed to win a single one of them. Something has to give in these two games surely?

Both Arsenal and Liverpool warmed up for this series of games with wins in the Premiership last weekend, Arsenal keeping their fading Premiership title hopes alive with a comeback against relegation-threatened Bolton to win 3-2 after having Abou Diaby sent off. Diaby is available for this game, as his ban does not apply to Champions League games. Liverpool strengthened their grip on Fourth Place in the Premiership with a 1-0 win against Merseyside rivals Everton.
Match Betting Odds:

  • Arsenal - 5/4 Favourites (Bet 365)
  • Draw - 21/10 (Boylesports)
  • Liverpool - 13/5 (Blue Square)

Barcelona, 7/2 (Ladbrokes) - Barca have a pretty easy tie in the Quarters against minnows Schalke 04, and should progress safely into the semis, where they will face the winners of the Roma/Man United tie. Champions League: Inter Milan v Liverpool betting preview

Inter Milan v Liverpool - Tuesday 11th March 2008, 19:45 kickoff, San Siro

Liverpool take a precious 2-0 lead into the second-leg of their last-16 tie against Italian side Inter Milan on Tuesday evening at the San Siro, and should see a safe passage through to the quarter finals along with fellow English sides Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal as the odds of an all-English final look ever smaller (The current odds for an English team to win the Champions League are just 8/15 with Bet 365).

History isn’t on their side though - Last time Liverpool took a two-goal lead into the away leg of a European tie against Inter, they lost 3-0 in Italy. Rafa Benitez will know what he has to do to avoid a similar result this…

Chelsea v Olympiakos Betting Preview

Chelsea v Olympiakos - Wednesday 5th March, Stamford Bridge, 19:45 kickoff.

The two sides met in a stalemate 0-0 draw in Greece two weeks ago, and the prize for the victor at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening is a place in the Quarter Finals of the Champions League. That would be a real coup for Olympiakos, as this is the first time since 1999 that they have managed to progress beyond the group phase of the Champions League.

Chelsea meanwhile join Manchester United and Barcelona as the only unbeaten sides in the compeition, having escaped defeat in their last seven Champions League matches since going down 1-0 against Liverpool in May 2007. Their last defeat at home in the competition was against Barcelona in February 2006. Olympiakos will find scoring against the…

AC Milan v Arsenal

Having kept a clean sheet at the Emirates, Arsenal travel to the San Siro on Tuesday with the upper hand in this tie, knowing a clean sheet against Milan will see them through to the quarter finals of the Champions League. Defender Kolo Toure is still struggling with a calf injury, whilst striker Robin van Persie should return to the squad. AC Milan will be without Clarence Seedorf and Emerson, although Kaka should be available for the return tie.

Arsenal will be looking to put a difficult couple of weeks behind them, having been dumped out of the FA Cup by Manchester United and dropping league points to Birmingham and Aston Villa, enabling Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to close the gap at the top of the Premiership. Exit…
