Bet Fred Betting – Betfred Bookmakers –

FREDLOGOBetfred, led by Chairman and founder Fred Done, are the world’s biggest independent bookmakers and the UK’s biggest independent high street retailer with over 700 shops, 3000 employees and a turnover in excess of £1.5 billion.

Betfred are also the official bookmaker and gaming partner for Wembley Stadium and Manchester United.

Fred Done went into partnership with his brother, Peter, to open a shop in Salford in 1967, marking the birth of Betfred bookmakers. The chairman has always wanted punters to feel that in placing a bet, they are taking him on personally. The firm now has over 400 shops nationwide.
Since 2002, the Done enterprise has extended into the realms of telephone and online betting. Betfred has been responsible for a number of “firsts” within the betting industry, including:

  • Inventors of the Lucky 15
  • First to offer early horseracing prices
  • First to offer best price guaranteed
  • First to pay out on disqualified horses after stewards enquiries for singles and multiples
  • First to offer 500/1 for three correct numbers on the Irish Lottery
  • First to abolish 5p rule four deductions
  • First to offer singles on football matches

“Bonus King”
Fred Done is the self-styled “Bonus King” and Betfred has endeavoured to offer more concessions than its competitors. Betfred bonuses include:

1. Double result payout on singles and multiples after stewards’ enquiries in horseracing
2. Treble odds for one winner on Lucky 15, 31 and 63
3. Best odds available on the Irish Lottery
4. Up to 500% bonus for all-correct horseracing multiples

Fred Done is probably most memorable for his decision to pay out early over Manchester United for the Premiership title in 1998. Being of the opinion that United had an unassailable lead he paid out punters with ten games left in the season. United were eventually caught by Arsenal, resulting in Done having to pay out twice, costing over £500,000.

Betfred is the latest of the major independent bookmakers to introduce an online sportsbook.
Only one account is required for telephone and online betting. Additionally, (and uniquely?) cash can be deposited and withdrawn in the betting shops.

The design and layout of the online site are very clean, with easy to read graphics.

Early indications are positive in that the site delivers a satisfying gaming experience. Navigation is quick and straightforward, with no difficulty encountered in getting a bet on.

Betting Opportunities
Betfred provide the full range of online sports betting options. Additionally, any bonus offers are keenly promoted. Many of these relate to multiple bets, but are worthwhile for those so inclined.

Site Features
Additional services such as football betting, racing information and live scores/results sections are particularity good. There are also regular competitions.

Casino / Bingo
Along with a comprehensive sportsbook, the Betfred site also offers a wide range of casino games and a number of bingo games.

The design of the Betfred poker room makes for excellent online poker. The format and layout, along with the range of tables / games are excellent. New poker players are eligible for a 100% bonus on their first deposit, up to $250, subject to playing the required number of hands.

Betfred is offering new online and call centre betting customers free bets up to £100. On opening an account, your first bet will be matched with a free bet of up to £50. Having placed a further 5 bets, each with a minimum stake of £10, you will receive a further £50 free bet.

Since 2004, Betfred has sponsored the (formerly Whitbread) Gold Cup at Sandown, in April. This sponsorship will continue until at least 2010. The “Bonus King” has added his own stamp to the two-day meeting by offering potentially £1,000,000 in bonuses for any horse attempting to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Grand National and Betfred Gold Cup. The bonuses on offer are:
£250,000 for any horse to win both the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the BetFred Gold Cup
£250,000 for any horse to win both the Grand National and the BetFred Gold Cup
£500,000 for any horse to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Grand National and the BetFred Gold Cup. For the 2008 renewal, if Denman and Comply Or Die turn up, it could prove to be an expensive day for Mr. Done!

Over the next five years, Betfred will be spending £70m on expansion, creating over 1,000 jobs in the UK. The intention is to double the number of betting shops to 800+ and undertake a huge expansion of the call centre and online business in order to become the biggest and best in the business
